Ailin sighed. The promenade was busy as usual and his clinic had been productive, if not tiring. He, Dr. Zirad, and Zill had been able to do good work and Ailin himself had been able to collect multiple samples. He turned to Zill. "Make sure that the consent forms are properly matched with the specimens. If Zunak and Bulsa come around, I'd like to make sure they don't find any reason to excessively disturb the lab. The last time Bulsa decided to search, we had to spend far too many zinos on replacing glassware." He paused for a moment. "On a related note, prioritize the biofilm flask project. Hopefully those will be more durible." He turned to Dr. Zirad. "If you wouldn't mind taking Zill back, I think I'm going to take a walk and get my mind off of things."
Ailin took out his personal notebook and began taking notes on people. After a few minutes, he stumbled onto a small group, with a Selesnyan cleric, a Boros goblin, and a third party he couldn't quite get a read on. As he began to approach, the goblin took his leave. He surveyed the remaining members. Looking at the cleric, he jotted down some notes. Fine features, viable race. Possible candidate, further inquiries needed. He turned to the other moving on to another page in the notebook. Seemingly human, though her some of her features indicated otherwise. He jotted notes. Appears human, though ghastly pallor brings into question. Though generally pulchritudinous, biology highly in question. Definite interest in sampling for further inquiry. He approached the two remaining members of the group. "Mind if I inquire of you? I'm performing surveys and you two are intriguing specimens."

Meanwhile, not too far away...
Fezzik was late.
To an extent, this was normal. Aspiring Izzet technicians are so renowned for their constant surges of inspiration, it should practically be in the job description. Gnomes seemed to have a particular talent for sudden "creative sparks" that, to the uninitiated, may appear scatterbrained or easily distracted.
But this time was different. This time the payment notice had gone Unanswered. In other words, Unheeded.
And that, unfortunately, required a House Call.
Grumbling under his breath as he absent-mindedly caressed the ostentatious chain around his neck, Makarov tried to keep his breathing calm and regular as he strode through the Promenade. The heavy cloak was pulled as closely as he dared over his magnificent armour to avoid unwarranted attention, yet loose enough that it could cast aside when confronting his quarry with a flourish. The armour itself was his greatest weapon - it could shatter spirits and bend knees with but a glimpse. Makarov silently hoped it would be the only weapon he would need as he meandered through the multi-faceted Promenade, a melting pot of guild rivalry and ego. If the wrong party paid too close attention... well, Makarov's hammer arm was getting a little stiff, though he preferred to ease that out with steady rhythmic calisthenics than boorish brawling.
Still, better to be prepared than caught off-guard. And woe betide dear Fezzik, if he should try to catch his Good Friend Makarov Vensk unawares.
The cloaked and armoured figure pressed onward, into the muddied tide of Ravnica.

"Good news? It's better than good! It's work!" Luna let her concentration on her illusion fade as she folded the letter and clapped her hands once. "Work means zinos, and zinos means I can pay off another person's debt from Vizkopa."
Luna wagged the letter in front of River, making a show of it. "Want to see Sunhome from the inside? I'll need a hand with this, and maybe if we're lucky, we can meet bump into a warleader. Have you ever met an angel in person before? Nackra only tosses me the fun and difficult cases. Got to be a little adventure attached to this one!"

Turning to face this newcomer, River smiled and gave a small curtsey, out of reflex really, before replying, "Of course good sir, inquire away. Helping others is what I do after all."

Got to be a little adventure attached to this one!" The sudden flare of white fire caught Makarov's eye, and he tensed reflexively. However, rather than an offensive spell or weapon flash, the flare dissipated into a dark-haired ghostly-looking woman, animatedly waving a sheet of paper at her compatriots. Amid the clamour around him, he heard her say the word "Vizkopa". At that moment Makarov smirked, for he knew who she was. Some wide-eyed impressionable souls referred to her as "Moon Eye" whenever she visited the Vizkopa Bank. Bludo had come up with a more fitting moniker: The Samaritan. On her weekly visits she would stride in, like a sullen teenager, depositing gold not for her own debts, but for a seemingly endless stream of acquaintaces. Makarov had often mused over how she managed to acquire so many connections, and it now it seemed he was seeing it first hand. "More strays to add to your collection?" His voice cut through the air like a piercing hymn. "It's about time for your weekly donation. I trust you'll be heading that way with your... dependants." He let the last word hang in the air as he cast an appraising eye over the others. A tall elven woman of regal bearing, yet carrying herself distractedly as she tried to focus on the person she was currently talking to. She bore herself like a tree against the rushing tide of the city around her - a Selesnyan lamb, perhaps. A green-skinned man - no, green- scaled man with elvish features, staring intently at the woman with pen and notebook poised. His exposed torso implied unawareness rather than vanity. A literal fish out of water. Makarov allowed himself a smirk at his own wit, though it quickly wilted as his nose caught a lingering waft of some sourceless BO.

Luna smiled and clapped her hands again, "Markov! I should've known the church would have someone sulking in the shadows" She brushed her hand towards River and Ailin. "These are new acquaintances. Just lending little old guildless me a hand. What fortuitous timing though."She offered the letter forward. It was vague in its request--nothing sensitive she needed to keep from prying eyes. "Want to help out? I'll even let you pick who's debt I pay off this week. Just think about it, your most annoying contact that makes you trek all over the district chasing them down for a pocketful of zinos." Luna gestured making a small explosion with her fingers and a "poofing" sound with her lips, "Just like that, your time would be freed up for more pious activities. How about it?"(Contents of the letter: Luna Whiteflame, I have a situation involving a mutual acquaintance of ours. I have been tasked to resolve, and after our last interaction, I believe you might be helpful. Pay a visit to the Sunhome guildhall as soon as you can. Time may be running out. You may want to bring allies. Useful, more than trustworthy, for this mission. You know how they can be. This is one of those. Make haste. I'll be waiting. ~ Nackra)

"How many times must I tell you, it's Maka-!" he hissed through gritted teeth before the letter was unceremoniously thrust into his face. Lack of social graces aside, the Samaritan's offer was tempting. The Church would get their dues either way, and he could work out another round of calisthenics before evening prayer. Then there were the other two - either of them could be coerced or cowed into the Obzedat's ledgers, given the right persuasion. The elven man, in particular, seemed to lack any kind of social understanding whatsoever. Perfectly malleable. Visiting the Boros guildhall, however, was less enticing. The Legion had a reputation for acting first, thinking fourth, and the increasing number of uncouth recruits was not doing them any favours. An Orzhov priest in the middle of the lion's den? He may as well paint a target over his armour. Still, having a high-ranking Boros Legionnaire in his debt... A ghost of a smile flickered across his face. "Shall we?" Makarov asked, holding the letter out to the others.

River was a bit confused from the interactions between the two, but she didn't mind that as being confused was almost a daily occurrence for her these days. Taking the letter from the stranger that Luna seemed to know, River read it over quickly though she had no context for its contents and shrugged once she'd finished it. "Sure I'll help if you need it. Mat'Selesnya's blessings may prove useful for this task."

Ailin was unfazed by the Orzhov enforcer. In general he preferred to avoid the Syndicate as a source of funding, finding the interest generally not worth the upfront funds. Besides, since most of his projects were healthcare related, it was easier to get grants and funding from other sources. Either way, he was never against another subject. "Good day to you sir. I was just inquiring of the young ladies here if they wanted to participate in a survey. We're collecting data from individuals about their health history. We're also collecting specimens from patients for further analysis. Your cooperation would be appreciated."
Ailin was reticent when the strange woman suggested visiting Sunhome. Dealing with the Boros in general, and Bolsa in particular, was not an experience he was looking forward to. However, the current group he was with could prove to be promising on multiple fronts, and thus decided to join. "I am available to walk to Sunhome. On the way, I can ask some questions for our survey. To start, name, age, species, and any current health conditions."

Makarov suppressed a shudder. Simic healthcare was all well and good, but their zealotry towards forced evolution and bio-engineered organisms made his skin crawl. And he did not want to know what kind of "specimens" this man was taking. "Syndic Makarov Vensk" he stated, straightening to his full height. "It is a... pleasure to meet you all. I am afraid if you require more intimate details such as medical history, you should make an appointment at the Orzhova guildhall. Security of our organisation is, as I'm sure you'll understand, of the utmost importance." He tried to keep his smile as professional as he could, though his fingers found their way to the chain circling his neck again.
